| Kazu Sano is a principal of JK Health Information Privacy
Advisors, a professional corporation -- a consulting firm/law
firm specializing in all aspects of HIPAA Privacy and Security
compliance. Kazu’s health care practice focuses on health
information privacy, HIPAA, health information technology,
and state and federal regulatory compliance.
Kazu advises clients across the health care industry including
health care providers, hospitals, IPA’s, regional health
authorities, health care districts, and hospitalist companies,
in some cases as data providers/data users in the RHIO setting.
Catholic Healthcare West listed Kazu as a HIPAA Privacy resource
for its attending physicians, and Kazu’s clients have ranged
from a NASDAQ-listed company in the Bay Area to a solo-doctor practice
in Southern California.

Kazu spent the majority of his legal career before becoming a principal
of the firm with the Chicago office of the New York law firm, Skadden
Arps -- one of the largest law firms in the country.
Kazu spent the year after graduating from law school as a law clerk
for the late Justice Stanley Mosk of the Supreme Court of California.
Honors & Awards
Named a Northern California “Super Lawyer,” 2004 &
2005 (judged to be in the top 5 percent of the legal profession
based on peer-review surveys in which California attorneys and a
blue-ribbon panel vote on the legal abilities of other lawyers with
whom they have practiced). In 2004, only 14 health lawyers were
so honored, and of these, only Kazu listed HIPAA Security and Privacy
compliance as a practice area.
