About The Firm: What Does The Firm Do?

JK Health Information Privacy Advisors, a professional corporation (JK HIPA), specializes in helping health care organizations comply with the new federal regulations governing the privacy of patients’ medical information (the “HIPAA” Privacy Rule).

Description of the Firm. JK Health Information Privacy Advisors is a law firm/consulting firm. It performs all the legal and non-legal tasks needed to bring your organization -- whether a solo practice or a large healthcare organization -- into compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule. JK HIPA brings the credentials and depth of experience of a larger law firm to the task of HIPAA compliance unencumbered by the costs and constraints of those firms. JK HIPA prides itself on the flexibility to structure the kind of cost structure -- hourly, fixed-fee, project-based -- that will fit into your organization’s current financial plan. The firm was profiled in an April 11, 2002 front-page article in the San Francisco Daily Journal, a California legal periodical.

Representative Clients. Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) has selected JK HIPA as one of only three HIPAA resources CHW recommends to physicians with admitting privileges at CHW hospitals. Representative clients range from and include a single-doctor practice in Southern California to a NASDAQ-listed company in the Bay Area that offers a range of mobile intelligence services.

Law Firm Functions. JK Health Information Privacy Advisors acts as a law firm by giving you legal advice as to what your organization needs to do to come into compliance with the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule. For example, the firm will analyze way you keep track of who accesses your patient’s medical records and tell you how you must change your policies and procedures to comply with HIPAA.

Consulting Functions. In addition, the firm acts as a consultant by working with your staff to implement all the non-legal tasks necessary to actually bring your organization into compliance. For example, if you must rearrange the physical layout of your offices to comply with HIPAA, the firm will do it or arrange to have it done for you. Think of the firm as HIPAA general contractors, meeting your HIPAA compliance needs, and as necessary, bringing in and supervising others.

The goal is for you to go home at the end of the day and leave the administrative hassles of compliance to JK Health Information Privacy Advisors. For a complimentary consultation, email the firm at info@jkhipa.com or call Kazu Sano at (415) 773-2861.
